Hello, @Saddy . In your original post, you said the home told you this was a ‘standard’ monthly charge and suggested you should set up a direct debit. This does sound as if they are charging every resident the same amount, regardless of usage.
if your husband has an allowance of between £25 and £28 per week to cover personal care, I would certainly be asking for a full breakdown of what the extra money is spent on. I wouldn’t be expecting anyone to need a haircut any more than once a month. Podiatry appointments in the NHS are only provided every four months, although I realise it’s different in care homes. You can buy toiletries and clothes yourself and certainly expect them to last at least four weeks.
I think SAP may be right. Care homes are asking for this money and banking it without providing an adequate breakdown of costs. This is sharp practice and has to stop.
