WWE Smackdown onsite report: John Cena leads the crowd in singing happy birthday for Hornswoggle, works a dark main event |
Dot Net reader Thad Perkins attended the WWE Smackdown taping in Baton Rouge, La. on Tuesday and sent the following notes on what happened after the television taping concluded.
John Cena came out to a deafening pop. Big Show came out with John Laurinaitis and David Otunga. Otunga replaced Tensai in the handicap dark match they held after Raw on Monday.
1. John Cena defeated Big Show, John Laurinaitis, and David Otunga. Cena took a beating only to turn around and win. Otunga took the WMD from Big Show accidentally, and Show took a tumble to ringside. Cena pinned Otunga for the win. Big Johnny hit Cena with the crutch only to take an Attitude Adjustment.
Cena celebrated with the fans and got back in the ring. He trashed the two jobbers who called Roll Tide during the actual taping. He got an LSU chant going. He called out the birthday boy Hornswoggle (kill me now). The crowd ended up singing happy birthday. Hornswoggle and Cena ran around the ring to close the show.
Notes: The hard camera side of the building was almost completely tarped off, as was half of the upper bowl. Other than that the place was at capacity with few seats to spare. The crowd was hot for Smackdown, not so much for NXT and Suoerstars. Going from Raw to Smackdown in 24 hours has me beat but it was worth it. The lights are really hot when they're pointed on you all night so if you sit floor level be aware of it. We stood out by the exit and watched the wrestlers leave. Nobody really responded to us. I guess they're really tired after the last two weeks. I can't blame them, although kids got upset. Oh well. Damien Sandow was the only one who spoke. Great show.
