The kiddos love opening those new games and toys each holiday season.  As a parent, I know I feel better when I know they are opening a present that will help them grow and learn.  Recently, my oldest, Lucas got the opportunity to play some math games with Mathnasium Severna Park-and let me tell you, he's not stopped talking about them!  I asked Kama Friedman, owner of Mathnasium Severna Park, to put together a list of her favorite games so I could use them to shop this holiday season-check them out-I've included links to purchase so you can just add them to your cart and voila!

Logic Dots - You only get a few clues, so you will need to use your deductive reasoning skills to solve each puzzle.

Even Steven's Odd - Encourages an understanding of simple addition and subtraction, number concepts like even and odd numerals, and following a pattern.

Prime Climb - Prime Climb is a beautiful, colorful, mathematical board game designed for 2 to 4 players. Roll the dice and add, subtract, multiply and divide your way to the center of the board, picking up prime cards and bumping your opponents back to start as you go.

Master Mind - Players take turns setting secret codes and solving the codes Uses STEM and STEAM principles--players use deductive reasoning and logic

Blink - Using sharp eyes and fast hands, 2 players try to match the shape, count, or color on their cards to either one of two discard piles

Clumsy Thief - Add to 100, take the money, win the game in this fast-paced game

Qwirkle -TACTICAL STRATEGY: Featuring a massive amount of in-game choices, including three tiles each of thirty-six possible color-symbol combinations, Qwirkle is the perfect game to hone player's tactical maneuvers, strategical planning, and forward thinking.

Tri-Ominoes - the classic triangular domino game, combining strategy, luck, and new challenges each time you play. Children will be adept at matching numbers wherever possible, and adults will appreciate the strategy involved in making the best moves for the most points.

Sum Swamp - Children develop fluency in early math skills as they play the game

**Your children can try out some of these games at Mathnasium's monthly Game Nights the second Friday of each month.  The next Game Night will take place in Severna Park on Friday, December 8th from 5:30-7:30pm and your children can attend for just a donation of canned goods and non-perishable foods!  Call 410-544-MATH to register and for more info.

At Game Nights, Mathnasium focuses on logic and strategy games in the center. Students may play any games that they want for as long as they want. No stations here. Some of our favorites include Logic Dots, Even Steven's Odd, Prime Climb, Master Mind, Blink, Clumsy Thief, Qwirkle, Triominoes, Sum Swamp, Battleship, chess, checkers. We always have Rubik's Cubes and brain teaser puzzles. Don't think that they are a bunch of stuffy people-Mathnasium always has snacks, music, and a good game of Uno and Spoons going, too.
